On the off chance that you’re one of the one or two people I know who I haven’t given multiple copies of this record to and/or forced you to come to 14 shows this past year, you can now finally stream the entire “new” Surrogate EP Diamonds and Pearls via Bandcamp, and I highly encourage you to do so.

Some Polaroid Pictures of People in Bands
When I was in high school I had a polaroid camera I’d carry around with me everywhere; I’d take headshots of people I’d met and hang them on my wall, sort of a “staff directory” of my life. This lasted until I got a serious girlfriend in college who I figured would probably take umbrage to so many “other” girls smiling down upon us (or at least me) while...

I'll Probably Be Around For Awhile Too
My friends in the band Brighten just put out a pretty amazing new EP called I’ll Always Be Around. You can stream the record here, and also watch a few live videos which I had the pleasure of playing keys on, recorded in Chico a couple months back at Jeff Schneeweis’ Old Sailor Studios. Jeff also played on the videos, along with Chris from Surrogate. I definitely win the award for...

Another Wednesday Night In Chico
Old friends, new music. Not bad for a practice and a half. Come see us at the El Rey Theater in Chico July 27th.
Some Music Videos That Have Happened Recently
The first video for the first song of my friends Trevor and Jeff’s new band The Make (and the origin of dancing cops photo from a couple weeks back).
Surrogate, live at the Blue Room in Chico.

Some Things That Have Happened Recently
Now that Surrogate finally got drunk on stage enough times to earn a spot in the pantheon of legendary Chico bar bands whose instruments line the walls of LaSalles, I can finally concentrate on doing the important shit like not flunking out of law school and trying to sell you clothes. To that end, I took the relatively meaningless step of applying for, taking the exam for and jumping through...

Some kids at the Redding School of the Arts in Redding, CA are learning a Surrogate song in their music class. I’d say they pretty much got that fucker licked.

As mentioned in posts of postmas past, Cold Blue Mountain is playing this Friday with our good friends Armed For Apocalypse and basically every other doom-ish stoner metal band in the Northern California area at the Sludge as Fuck Fest. We are also magically getting our shit together enough to play some out of town shows later this month, including the 26th in Santa Rosa somewhere and the night...

All Done
So the new Surrogate EP is officially done. As fuck. It’s called Diamonds and Pearls, and our friend Mario Correa made us some delicious cover art, which you can see above. As well as an equally pleasing poster for the CD release show March 11th at Lasalles in Chico, CA with our friends Steve French and Dustin Ruth (the former being a band of dudes, the latter being a dude of bands). You...

Remember when I said that the new Surrogate EP would be coming out eventually? Well by eventually I meant March 11th, at least in Chico. We’re having a CD release show at LaSalles (where else?). We’ll have copies of the EP for sale, and hopefully they’ll be going online via iTunes and all that other garbage around the same time. Then hopefully sometime very soon thereafter you...

Some Things That Have Happened
Just noticed it’s been three months since last we spoke, so I figured I’d take a break from stuffing my face with sandwiches, staring forlornly out the window, and watching the crappy ’90s movies on my DVR instead of reading my casebooks to chronicle the sheer, unadulterated excitement that is my life. As referenced in the last post, I indeed turned 30,...

A List of Things To Do Before I Turn 30
Here is a list of the things I want to accomplish before I turn 30:
1. Eat the two leftover pieces of pizza in my fridge.
2. Get a Big Gulp of Gatorade from 7-11
3. Finish posting this list of things I want to accom…
Whoops, just turned 30. At least I got most of them done. Come see Surrogate next Wednesday, August 11th at LaSalles and see for yourself how 30 I am.

My Resume
The Great Wall of China was originally created to keep Daniel Taylor out. It failed miserably.
If you ask Daniel Taylor what time it is, he always says, “Two seconds ‘til.” After you ask, “Two seconds ‘til what?” he roundhouse kicks you in the face.
Daniel Taylor drives an ice cream truck covered in human skulls.
When Daniel Taylor sends in his...

Some Things That Have Happened Lately
In the last couple of weeks, I finished my first year of law school, got a new job, took some super ridiculous senior photo-style pictures with my friend Marshall, and got a mohawk again. That’s pretty much it. In the next couple months, I’m going to play some shows up North (starting with Surrogate at the Crocodile in Seattle on June 3rd) take some summer classes and turn 30....

If you like pissed riffs, or just need some shit to do metal karaoke to, you can now download the six-song CD Cold Blue Mountain did with the lovely Chris Keene for free over at Bandcamp. You can then feel obligated to come to a show and buy a shirt (designed by the badass Jake Van Der Linde as shown below) or buy me a beer, or at worst just stand there and nod in approval. We’ll be in...

Sometimes I Interview Bands Still
Although I have, for the most part, committed the music “journalist” segment of my illustrious life to posterity, I occasionally try to relive the glory days and interview bands, even though now that they invented the internet, any kid with a shitty tumblr or YouTube channel can do what they used to (and I guess occasionally do still) pay assholes like me to do. Regardless, here are a...

The four-song Marked for Death EP is now available for free, semi-quality download over on Bandcamp. If you don’t drive around this summer listening to that shit, you’re doing it RONG.

Here’s some bootleg style video of my new band Marked for Death at Lasalles in Chico. The song’s called “We’re an Empire Too” and as of now its the only actual “recording” of any kind that we have, although we are going into the studio with Jeff Schneeweis (NOG!, Hawthorne Heights, Secret and Whisper) next month to do a couple songs, so stayed tuned.
